Mobius.energy to supply battery modules for 65 DoveTail conversions

Mobius.energy’s Husky battery will be used in Dovetail Electric Aviation’s electric conversions of the Cessna Grand Caravan in a new partnership.

The Husky module will be fitted on 65 aircraft in Dovetail’s backlog. The commuter aircraft converter plans to be fully certified and on the market by 2025. 

The Husky’s independent modular architecture at a voltage of 800V includes what is called a customisable battery management system (BMS). To build a pack which can power an aircraft, multiple modules can be connected in parallel. This creates numerous redundancies to improve safety.

Dovetail said it has focused on turbine aircraft conversion because it is faster than clean-sheet design. The firm plans to achieve a supplemental type certificate (STC) for converted aircraft within three years, it is more like eight to ten years for clean-sheets — at a fraction of the certification costs.

Dovetail has relationships with a range of airlines including Australia’s Sydney Seaplanes, Alt Air, SeaAir Pacific, Europe’s Volotea, Air Nostrum, Isla Air, and Monte Aircraft Leasing. Dovetail also recently announced Rex Airlines as a partner.
