Beta Technologies and 47G | Utah Aerospace & Defense (47G) have signed an agreement to begin work to launch a statewide advanced air mobility (AAM) transportation system.

Supported by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO), the partnership will see the state of Utah, 47G and Beta combine on a host of AAM readiness activities. These include identifying priority routes for electric aircraft operations, such as Provo to Salt Lake City, establishing sites to deploy Beta’s multimodal electric chargers and outlining locations for aircraft demonstrations and pilot training.

Beta describes the partnership as the introduction of a new way for Utahns to get around — enabling commuters to travel to and from Salt Lake City and allowing for critical cargo and medical missions over the state’s austere terrain.

“Utah has a long history of excellence in aerospace and defense, in fact, many of our partners are building parts for our aircraft right here in the state,” said Kyle Clark, Beta’s founder and CEO. “There is a spirit of innovation and commitment to progress here that has driven a pretty exceptional transformation over the past decade, so this focus on preparing for the future comes as no surprise. Governor Cox and the team at 47G have a compelling vision for how AAM can reshape transportation to increase access and connect communities across the state, and Beta is excited to help bring this new mode of transport to Utahns.”

Aerospace and defence accounts for nearly 1,000 establishments and more than 30,000 jobs in the state of Utah.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said: “This is the golden age of Utah. We are at the epicentre for cutting-edge innovations in the commercial aviation industry that will play a critical role in Utah’s economic future. Utah is not just embracing the future of transportation—we are leading it.”

This agreement marks Utah’s first step in a broader strategy to launch scaled AAM operations across the state ahead of the 2034 Olympic Games. The state plans to take a step-wise approach, first implementing charging infrastructure, then integrating eCTOL operations, followed by eVTOL operations.

“This partnership brings together organisations who all share the vision and collective resources to move Utah into a leading position nationally,” said Aaron Starks, 47G president and CEO. “Air mobility will eventually change the way people commute, receive life-saving medical supplies, and transport parcels and packages with greater efficiency.”State
