flyvirtual is to become on demand ‘tech’ airline flyvbird as it secures new investment and launches an aircraft partnership.

Using what it calls an “innovative algorithmic approach”, flyvbird plans to offer a flexible and changing network on a weekly and daily basis, to meet customer needs. With a focus on decentralised, regional markets served by sustainable aircraft the firm wants to utilise smaller regional airports to offer a faster alternative to traditional modes.

Entrepreneur Sébastien Mérillat is joining the flyvbird team. He said: “I am delighted to join flyvbird at this exciting time in their journey to build an entirely new airline model. I look forward to working with Tomislav and Anton to help drive the company’s growth and success in the years to come.”

In addition, the airline has formed a close partnership with an undisclosed aircraft manufacturer, that will deliver the company’s first aircraft. Tomislav Lang, founder and CEO of flyvbird, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Sébastien Mérillat to our start up airline and officially announce our close partnership with Tecnam, which will help us accelerate our growth and establish ourselves as a leader in personalised on demand air mobility.”

flyvbird has previously secured a partnership with Electra.aero, developer of a hybrid eSTOL aircraft. Anton Lutz, chief commercial officer and co-founder, flyvbird, said: “We believe that our unique approach to air travel, combined with our strategic partnerships and innovative technology, will revolutionise the way people travel, and we look forward to realise our vision with the support of our investors and partners.”
