Volocopter and Jet Systems agree deal for two eVTOL aircraft

Ailing eVTOL developer Volocopter has signed an agreement with French operator Jet Systems Hélicoptères Services for two VoloCity eVTOL aircraft.
The pair plan to operate the aircraft in France, initially in Paris, once type certification has been awarded by EASA. However, Volocopter’s ability to see the VoloCity through certification is in doubt as the German company continues to search for investment after it filed for insolvency in late December. Financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Andreas Fehring, MD and chief operating officer of Volocopter said: “We are excited to partner with Jet Systems and secure eVTOL operations in Paris, where we have invested our efforts for many years. With 75% of our EASA audits completed, Volocopter is close to and committed to achieving VoloCity’s EASA certification as soon as possible to meet our customers’ expectations and cities’ commitments to bring sustainable mobilities into service.”
The long-term agreement will also see Volocopter oversee maintenance and pilot training, whilst providing its software system VoloIQ to assist with fleet management and operations. Jet Systems will provide general airline services, including securing ground crew, pilots, and maintenance teams. It will also liaise with city officials and developers.
Michel Moulin, CEO of Jet Systems Hélicoptères Services, said: “We are delighted to partner with Volocopter to offer safe, responsible, and environmentally friendly mobility solutions while minimizing the impact on local communities in Paris. Thanks to Volocopter’s expertise and its rigorously certified aircraft, users will be able to experience Paris from a new perspective and travel more efficiently.”
After Parisian operations have been established, the partnership will extend to France’s southwest and southeast regions, where it will make use of Jet System’s helicopter routes that currently serve up to 15,000 passengers per year.
