UK-based eVTOL developer Sora Aviation has secured a pre-order for 20 aircraft from Korean helicopter operator Moviation.

The deal for Sora’s 30-seat S-1 eVTOL aircraft also includes an agreement that will see both firms explore route planning and associated tasks. The pair aim to launch with three routes: Jamsil Heliport to Incheon Airport, Yeouido financial district to Incheon Airport and Jamsil Heliport to Sejong City.

“We are thrilled to partner with Moviation to bring efficient, scalable eVTOL services to South Korea,” said Furqan, CEO of Sora Aviation. “The S-1 is designed not just for efficiency, but also to ensure that urban air mobility is truly accessible to more people — not just a luxury service. This pre-order underscores the demand for higher capacity eVTOLs that can deliver equitable access to air mobility.”

Acording to Sora, South Korea presents a “prime opportunity” for eVTOL adoption with dense urban centres and strong government support for urban air mobility.

In June 2024, the Moviation launched Vonaer, Korea’s first urban air mobility (UAM) service. Using chartered helicopters between existing helipads or upcoming vertiports, the servuce provides rides to passengers who book online through a smartphone app. The service platform carries passengers from Jamsil in southern Seoul to Incheon International Airport in 20 minutes, a trip taking about two hours by road.

Moviation aims to integrate the S-1 into its existing helicopter operations, increasing passenger capacity while reducing per-seat costs.

Moviation CEO Min Shin said: “As South Korea accelerates its transition to urban air mobility, we see the S-1 as a game-changer. Its larger capacity and lower operating costs per passenger compared with helicopters and smaller eVTOLs make it an ideal fit for high-demand routes like Jamsil to Incheon. This partnership is a crucial step toward making air mobility more accessible and practical for a wider range of passengers.”
